MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observer's Report for 2003 Mar 31 Observer(s): Martin Bureau, Davor Krajnovic Institution(s): Columbia, Leiden Instrument: Echelle f/7.5 direct imaging Worked for 11 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Proceeded with our main project, obtaining long exposures on a number of galaxies (6.5 objects completed). The conditions were generally very good but a few occasional cirrus. The seeing was very good at the beginning (close to 1 arcsecond) but average for the rest of the night (1.5 to 2 arcseconds). Unfortunately, we again lost a lot of time due to wild slewing of the telescope, as reported in previous nights. This always happens when pointing around 0-10 deg in DEC and slightly west of the meridian. Unfortunately, it is hard for us to avoid this region since most of our objects are in Virgo (RA=12-13, DEC=0-15). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Apr 1 [4:26:12]
