MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observer's Report for 2003 Sep 29 Observer(s): Bentz Institution(s): OSU Instrument: Templeton Worked for 1 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: The guider stopped functioning correctly after 15 minutes of actual data observations. The telescope kept drifting east, so that within 60 seconds the guide star had drifted out of the guider box, even though the guider screen was updating every two seconds and I could hear the telescope clicking as if it was adjusting itself. After a conversation with Bob about it, we figured a relay had probably gone bad in the guider system. As I'm imaging host galaxies of AGN, I need to take 5-15 minute exposures, so observing without a guider is just not feasible. I managed to get all my targets before the end of last night, so even though I couldn't get any data today, I'm still ok. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Sep 29 [23:29:41]
