MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observer's Report for 2005 Jul 01 Observer(s): J. Thorstensen, H. Sheets, A. Kapusta Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Mark III + Templeton CCD Worked for 7 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 10 PM until 3 AM. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: First night of spectroscopy on 1.3 m. The DTI is hooked up to post-process the signal from the Seitzer guider; this greatly increases visibility of faint objects, but the guide TV image tube is way past its prime, with a big dead spot in the middle from many years of centered guide stars. Weather was partly cloudy all night, with some periods of heavy cloud and other periods nearly clear. Seeing very hard to judge because the slit-viewing TV has a very small image scale, so figures below are basically a guess. Small note -- the nice little chart-reading lamp at the console for reading guide stars has come really loose. Also, it'd help us old guys if the TCS monitor out in the dome were not so high up -- I have to crane my neck way back to see it with my bifocals. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 Jul 2 [23:42:02] NOTE: This report replaces the previous 1.3m telescope observing report for 2005 Jul 01
