MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observer's Report for 2007 Jul 19 Observer(s): armstrong; thompson Institution(s): columbia Instrument: templeton/direct No Observing (see comments below) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Observing Summary: But I hate to call it 'bad' weather. It was possibly the most spectacular, dramatic natural display I've seen. For a few hours at the start of the night, lightning cast the world under a strobe light - blazing an intense blue white and then plunging into blackness in a fraction of a second. Astounding. The lightning drifted away by 1am, but the sky was still cloaked in clouds, and it still drizzled. At 1:45 I turned in for the night. At 10am I got up and read John's report and now feel totally lame for not having stuck it out for another couple hours. So far as I know, The Rat is still at large. Motivated by my horror that such a monster would choose to terrorize my fellow observer, I ask anyone with information leading to the eventual capture and containment of this rat, to please step forward immediately. You will receive a free quick-wrapped Blake's Cheesecake from the Three Points truck stop. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2007 Jul 20 [10:37:42]
