MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2009 Jun 21 Observer(s): Parks Institution(s): OSU Instrument: 4k Worked for 4 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2.02 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 2+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: The night began routinely with good focus and moderate seeing. There was a brief period of high wind gusts that quickly calmed down. The seeing continued to get worse as the night went on and eventually I stopped to do a focus test. I then went to observe another area (Cygnus) and upon readout, I noticed the bottom half of the frame was barely showing (if at all) any stars. I tried another cluster (NGC6633) but the same problem arose. I sought assistance from 2 observers at the MDM 2.4 meter, but we could not figure out the problem. After closing up the telescope, restarting the computers and opening back up, the problem still existed, so I was forced to shut down for the rest of the night. An email will be sent to Professor Terndrup also. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Jun 21 [2:03:21]
