MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2009 Mar 10 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Templeton ccd direct Worked for 8 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Took two long time series; I was also running the 2.4m. In the middle of the night I did a little engineering, moving the guide probe around and trying to figure out why my guide-star finding program (which works perfectly on the 2.4m) was failing on the 1.3m, using the manual's numbers for the geometry. I determined the guide probe scale to be roughly 0.0837 arcsec per step, whereas the manual has 0.099 arcsec per step. After correcting the scale factor I could move consistently from one star to another in a test field. The conversion factors used in the MIS gui between motor steps, millimeters, and arcsec all appear to be incorrect. I had a little drive trouble, described in trouble report. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Mar 11 [7:02:47]
