MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2009 Mar 27 Observer(s): armstrong Institution(s): columbia Instrument: templeton/direct Worked for 4 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Just after setting up on my first star, I noticed that the xmis window was blank - that is, the colored rectangles that *should* have contained text were there, but the text itself was gone. I killed the xmis process, brought up a new xmis, hit 'initialize', and waited long enough to realize that it wasn't initializing. Killed the process again, and instantly the entire screen & cursor froze. Consulted the manuals to find out whether it would screw things up if I shut down McGraw manually while the telescope was still tracking. Didn't find any info. Called Bob. Bob said rebooting McGraw was fine; I rebooted. Started the TCS and hit 'refresh', but while RA was displayed normally, the DEC, HA, and EQUINOX were blank. Under Bob's direction, typed telescope stop and then start in an xterm. Things have worked swimmingly after that. I'll close early to get some sleep before driving down in the morning. Thank you, Bob, Tony, and Paul! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Mar 27 [21:38:11]
