MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2011 Aug 26 Observer(s): Jules Halpern Institution(s): Columbia U. Instrument: R4k Worked for 7 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Overcast, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: First object was a standard star. Virtually all of its images were doubled by 2-2.5 arcseconds as described in the trouble report. After an hour, had to close for rain. Opened again after a couple of hours. Was able to observe my main program object for 5 hours with no doubled images, However, at one point the images made a permanent jump by about 11 arcseconds in a diagonal direction. The latter, by the way, is vintage behavior of this telescope that no one has ever explained. The final object was a standard star, for which the doubled images returned. This night is therefore a duplicate of last night's behavior as far as the doubled images are concerned. So. Any ideas ???
