MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Dec 12 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds High End: Seeing 2+ arcsec, Clear, Winds High Observing Summary: Clear night, but with gradually increasing wind and deteriorating seeing in front of a storm due to arrive tomorrow night. The telescope shakes quite a bit when pointed toward the wind, of course. Much smoother tonight since everything was set up. Also, I found the problem with the JSkyCalc13mGS program (my own doing it turned out) so I used it for most of the telescope-handling through the night, and it worked very nicely. At one point I tracked into the west limit and was flummoxed for a little bit trying to get the telescope out of it. This and other things need to be documented better, a task I may undertake tomorrow night when the bad weather comes. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Dec 13 [7:05:30]
