MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Jan 19 Observer(s): Adams and Stoll Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: We lost about 20 minutes total, half of which was due to multiple TCS link losses, which we think may be related to attempting to move the guide probe (through Prospero, if it matters) while the telescope is slewing (through JSkyCalc, if it matters). We don't expect to encounter this again. The other 10 minutes lost is more troubling because we don't have a guess to the cause or the fix. We describe it more fully in the trouble report, but the telescope suddenly started to drift north, and just as suddenly stopped six minutes later, though seemingly not in response to anything we tried while attempting to diagnose and fix it. The only theory we have is that it may be a telescope balance issue. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Jan 20 [6:43:56]
