MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Nov 14 Observer(s): Wagner and Gordon Institution(s): OSU Instrument: Templeton/Direct Worked for 10.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 2.25 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 2.40 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.92 arcsec, Overcast, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Same program as last night. We had considerable cirrus all night with very variable conditions. Winds were calm to light. As last night we tracked a target from 3.5 hours E to 3.5 hours W at +5 deg DEC. We experienced the same image jump in both RA and DEC as seen last night. Last night this occurred at 1h12m W and tonight it was at 1h17m W. So there may be some correlation. The guiding log was saved that shows the jump at 8:11 UTC. Reduction of the data from last night shows a clear drift of stars across the field - mostly along DEC. I measured a drift of 45 pixels in Y across the science detector with the guider locked. So there must be some significant amount of differential flexure between the guider and science camera. We can work around the problem for now. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Nov 15 [5:29:00]
