MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Sep 24 Observer(s): Colon Institution(s): UH Instrument: 4K Worked for 9 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Weather was pretty perfect all night. The lights flickered several times in the control room in the beginning of the night but seemed to stabilize within a few hours after sunset. Around 10:15 pm the TCS lost connection to the server. I waited a bit for the connection to come back but it did not. I tried restarting the TCS gui and that didn't work. I then tried typing telescope start in a terminal and noted that a connection to hill could not be established. I then checked the computer room and saw that hill was off for some reason. I powered hill up and eventually got things working again. However, I lost over an hour of observing time between troubleshooting and then having to set up the pointing for the telescope again, since I again encountered a 13+ minutes offset in the east/west tilt after the TCS was restarted. Unfortunately this issue occurred right in the middle of the candidate transit event that I was observing. I submitted a trouble report detailing the above problem. I observed one target for most of the night with no other problems besides the one detailed above. I shut down a little early since my primary target set before 5:30 am (and so I could catch up on sleep!). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Sep 25 [5:24:38]
