MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Apr 23 Observer(s): Denney/King Institution(s): OSU/UQ Instrument: CCDS Worked for 5 hours (last half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Cirrus, Winds Calm, haze (dust?) Mid: Cirrus, Winds Calm, haze (dust?) End: Seeing 1.9 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm, haze (dust?) Observing Summary: We didn't even think we were going to be observing with CCDS tonight, but UM ended with the 1.3m early, and the day staff were able to put CCDS on in the afternoon. Anthea and I spend the first part of the night at the Bok, however, where I was being trained, so we couldn't go on sky with CCDS early in the night. When we got back down here from the Bok, we took advantage of the eye piece that was still on the 2.4m, where Mario Mateo was nice enough to show us some nice views. We got set up at the 1.3m around mid-night local time, where I spent a bit of time making sure things were set back up and everything was loaded for AGN14. We were able to take calibs just fine, and played with the central wavelength a bit to get it well centered at 5000A to begin. Then ran our beginning of the night lamps and biases with no problem. We skipped the flats, wanting to get some science images while we had dark time, deferring flats for the morning. However, when we tried to point to a bright star, it wasn't there. Trouble insued for quite some time (see trouble report), but my brain finally unclouded about 3:15am local time when I finally figured out the MIS was up to its shenanigans again, and either the mirror didn't make it fully out or the guide probe wasn't fully stored (sigh). After that, we managed to get a standard star and NGC 5548, though we did push 5548 to quite high airmass and into twilight, but it's bright, it could handle it... I also have to give Michael a hard time about his Google Drive logs, as I now have to recreate half of my wonderful log for tonight because Drive just decided to delete MOST OF IT - UGH!! (expletive, expletive). I DON'T UNDERSTAND! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Apr 24 [5:58:32]
