MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Apr 25 Observer(s): Denney/King Institution(s): OSU/UQ Instrument: CCDS Worked for 6 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 7:00 until 8:00. Beg: Seeing 2.9 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 3.7 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds High End: Seeing 2.4 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds High, dust Observing Summary: We started late because of clouds early in the night. As the clouds thinned, the wind picked up, and we observed it go as high as ~30mph. Kitt Peak eventually closed domes due to the high winds, but we closed early, about 3am LST, due to the likelihood of dust in the air. Actual observing went relatively smoothly otherwise. DS9 exhibited a weird problem in that the GUI buttons to change frames decided not to work, even after closing the restarting the program, but the commands worked through the menu buttons, so no biggie. Anthea and I caught ourselves a couple of mice too... One in the waste bin in the control room - turned the recycle bin over on the waste bin when the mouse was in there rummaging around. We're not sure what to do about it yet... The other was partially caught in a trap in the machine shop. We haven't decided what to do with it either... Neither of us have any problem disposing of dead mice, but we don't particularly want to actually kill them ourselves... Given it's Friday night, presumably we'll think of something before the end of the weekend... ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Apr 26 [4:48:33]
