MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Feb 07 Observer(s): Coker Institution(s): Ohio State Instrument: CCDS Worked for 11 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.7 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: The night started with patches of clouds at sunset which quickly dissipated, leaving only some light cirrus in their wake. Hazy but essentially clear conditions prevailed for the rest of the night; the haze/cirrus grew thicker as the night went on. I was able to observe all planned targets except as noted below. While attempting to observe Akn 120 and NGC 2617, the telescope began nodding north-south with amplitudes of 0.5-1' or more. This totally precluded observing Akn 120, but did not occur until my third exposure of NGC 2617, so I was able to get some good data from that. Both targets were close to the meridian at the time of the problems, and both are near the celestial equator. The nodding did not affect observations in any other part of the sky. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 8 [6:50:11]
