MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Jan 27 Observer(s): Mike Eracleous Institution(s): Penn State Instrument: CCDS Worked for 10.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Sky was clear, seeing varied between 1.3 and 1.9 arcsec. Prospero could not execute observing script on standard star Feige 34. It gave errors that it could not change MIS lamp or could not move MIS probe. Had to STARTUP Prospero, re-initialize MIS GUI, and even cycle power on MIS box in computer room. In the end gave up on Feige 34 after several attempts. I strongly suspect the problem is that the guide probe y offset for this is star way too high (=111111). Pervious observer also reported repeated trouble with this star. Lost a total of 1 hour but recovered successfully. Had to give up observation of that star. Problem appeared again at the end of the night when I tried to do final arc lamp exposures and bias frames. The process I followed earlier in the night did not work this time. The errors from Prospero are: Could not change MIS lamp Subroutine line stack number: Prospero 0 docalibsend 52 execution error in line 52 lamp off ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Jan 28 [6:59:07]
