MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Nov 18 Observer(s): Cho, Halpern Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: Templeton Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 3.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 2.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: A productive night despite some difficulties. The paddle doesn't always move the telescope in the N-S direction, as has been mentioned before. We also saw this in the guider function, where it once took a couple of minutes for the guider to pull the telescope when it got off center. After submitting the trouble report about x11vnc, it happened once more that it failed. At the same time, I noticed that OWL, in the middle of a sequence of exposures, stalled for 3 minutes, and then resumed all by itself. Fortunately I was able to get back in this time after a couple of tries of vnc. Finally, at the end of the night the dropleaf would not close. It gave no error message. Stop and start the telescope fixed that. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Nov 19 [7:03:45]
