MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Sep 14 Observer(s): Thorstensen & students Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Templeton + buckeye FW Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: Good night, breezy -- KP closed due to wind, but wind on SW ridge seldom exceeded 20 mph. No nodding - a little telescope shake. I think I can tell the difference and the excursions observed last night were nodding. Focused more carefully tonight, and images that are maybe 3 units out of focus look like diamond rings, very asymmetrical. It's clear that something is wrong with the collimation. Had one minor glitch with the filter wheel - tried to move it while the find/guide mirror was in motion. Cleared by re-initializing xmis2 and cycling through the filters. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Sep 15 [6:03:40]
