MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2019 Sep 11 Observer(s): Jules Halpern Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: Templeton Worked for 9 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.7 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.7 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.7 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Observed most of the night, except for 1 hour of high humidity and 1/2 hour in which I lost control of the workstation due to an uncertain cause. The VNC connection might have hung, and it took several tries to reconnect. But more important, the type-ahead buffer got filled with thousands of characters which then took about 1/2 hour to dump, during which I could not use any command-line interface or terminal window. Fortunately the telescope kept tracking. (I seem to to have more frequent problems with VNC than anyone else.) Finally, there was constant north-south nodding by a couple of pixels all night. Despite the elongated images, useful data were obtained. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2019 Sep 12 [5:58:20]
