MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2021 Oct 04 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Templeton direct Worked for 1.5 hours (part of the night) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from start until 4AM. Beg: Seeing 2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Never clear. The first little bit of the night was usable, though, and Kitt Peak opened under a caution given the very dubious forecast. I opened too, but when I set on the first target I couldn't ID the field, so I reset the coordinates on the tilt meters and re-established the pointing, which took me longer than it should have since I haven't done it in so long. Once I got on target and started a sequence, Kitt Peak closed their domes, and heavier clouds had drifted in, so I closed up a few minutes later. The Columbia observers reported hearing thunder from time to time midway through the night, and also some rain. About an hour before twilight it started clearing off pretty, well and soon got pretty good, without even any humidity problems. I opened about 4 AM and jumped on some targets, catching two CV eclipses. There was still some high cloud from time to time. Beautiful Zodiacal light was visible in the all-sky camera before twilight. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2021 Oct 5 [5:44:37]
