MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2021 Oct 25 Observer(s): John Thorstensen and students Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec+templeton Worked for 5 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Overcast, Winds Moderate, v. low cloud. End: Overcast, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: Nice weather until it clouded up abruptly after 10:30 PM MST. The observing class groups with me managed to get their observations done, and I was able to get some useful science observations in before it clouded up. The forecast had been for fairly heavy winds, but had no problems with telescope shake and the seeing was decent. The humidity fluctuated but remained well within limits -- it got more humid at the top and they closed early. Then sometime after 10:30 it clouded up abruptly -- humidity was in the 70s but the clouds were a blur in the all-sky camera, consistent with fast-moving moonlit fog not too high above the mountaintop. I closed immediately. I waited for a while, but the humidity kept marching upward -- and was predicted to continue -- and the evident mountain foghat didn't look like it was going to go away. Around midnight MST I called it a night and headed for home. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2021 Oct 26 [0:37:38]
