MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2021 Oct 27 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec+echelle Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing var. arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: Another fine clear night, but with somewhat more wind and seeing not quite as steady as last night. Humidity was notably low. Later in the evening I was looking at a target low in the southeast -- airmass greater than 2 -- and had some epically terrible seeing, but it improved pretty quickly. Telescope shake was, oddly, not much of an issue anywhere. Very productive scientifically -- two new CV orbital periods. I did experience one glitch, which cost me no time. At some point I used the caps lock key, and somehow the workstation got stuck in caps lock, no matter what I did. Fortunately I wasn't typing on it much, and could work around using the shift key to type lowercase characters when needed. This also happened to Elisabeth Newton and I when I was helping her get started, but now I don't remember how we cured it! After I closing I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the VNC, but it that didn't fix it. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2021 Oct 28 [6:42:40]
