MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2024 Jun 08 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Templeton direct Worked for 7 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Nice to start, but high-and mid-level clouds started coming over from the southeast. These were fairly heavy at time but I managed to keep working. One really interesting incident I forgot to mention from last night. The guider apparently lost track at one point and picked up a different star! When I looked at the guider camera 'direct', I saw an apparent star drift across the field straight east-west. This is the second time I've seen this -- the guide star I'd chosen was at just the right dec so that I was looking through the geostationary satellite belt! It was around -5 degrees. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2024 Jun 9 [5:10:28]
