MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2001 Apr 14 Observer(s): Ali Kinkhabwala and David Helfand Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: MDM8K Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the summary for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 0.7 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Significant haze on western horizon at beginning of night, but no clouds in sight. Conditions almost photometric throughout the night. The guider pc crashed (or froze ) twice. We noticed that the power cables were not fully pushed in. After pushing them in, the crashing stopped. Perhaps a piece of tape or a repositioning of the outlet strip (on the table in the corner behind the guider pc) is necessary to avoid future problems. Minor problems with the 8K software: a couple of times it seemed to refuse to recognize the fileno command and would start renumbering from 1. Does the ORDER of filename, filenumber matter?? A really minor problem (but one in place for at least 9 months: the light in the entrance to the south room sleeping quarters is out and needs replacing (where's the ladder??) ------------------------------ Submitted on 2001 Apr 15 [10:52:50]
