MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2001 Jun 23 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the summary for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 0.8 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Finally, a very good night! Started out with some clouds, reddened lightning in far distance (past Tucson) and occasional high cloud during night, but seeing was often excellent. CV period work and occasional ID work. Problem: Went on generator early in night to insure against power glitches (UPS not working), but after about 10 min of operation the lights started pulsing with alarming amplitude at about 3 Hz. After more than a minute of this I went back to line power and luckily had no problems with it. Dome is still a little sloppy but OK if you keep an eye on it. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2001 Jun 24 [5:17:22]
