MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2001 May 23 Observer(s): Marianne Vestergaard Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS Worked for 7.5 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the summary for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Mirror cover refused to open - got stuck at the central baffle. The solution was to tilt the telescope south until mirror cover wedged out. Had some start-up problems with the guider. The various guider parameters were ways off resulting in the guider pulling the objects off the slit. Eventually figured out the right combination of parameters. I suggest reasonable guider parameters are high-lighted in the CCDS manual for easy access (in addition to being somewhere deep in the tvguider manual). I also suggest a note being added in CCDS manual that the tvguider manual can be used for reference when the Seitzer guider is installed (I was looking endlessly for a specific manual for it). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2001 May 24 [5:30:30]
