MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2002 Jun 06 Observer(s): Monique Aller Institution(s): University of Michigan Instrument: Wilbur + MODSPEC Worked for 10 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.8 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm End: Seeing 2.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: I observed 4 galaxies and a large number of template stars (dwarf and giant G,K). Unfortunately, I lost about an hour in the middle of the night when a patch of clouds came in and prevented me from locating my galaxies (or even any nearby bright stars for a while). These clouds left by 1:30 (local time) and then there were gusty winds of 15 mph which affected the mirror temp and led to much poorer seeing in the latter part of the night. Problems: 1. I accidentally snapped the hose which attaches the vat to the dewar so I can no longer fill the dewar. 2. The rotator encoder glitched when I was rotating it slowly and lept from ~5 to something like -663. I went back the other direction and it went back to 5 and the problem did not repeat itself. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Jun 7 [4:37:38]
