MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2002 Oct 24 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Echelle direct Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 0.8 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1. arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, a few small clouds End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: A generally fine night after an unpromising-looking day. Imaging of cataclysmic variables, mostly for astrometry, some for ID and reconnaissance. Also imaged GRB for Jules. Seeing was excellent at first but deteriorated somewhat since the mirror could not be cooled on the previous day due to humidity. The one trouble was that the dome off took rotating slowly once, and rotated almost all the way round before it snapped out of its fugue state. Lost most of the light for a few minutes -- of Jules' GRB observation! I've seen this before occasionally, I think it may have happened the previous night but I forgot to mention it. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Oct 25 [7:05:17]
