MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2003 Dec 16 Observer(s): Rebecca Billmeier, Judy Yu Institution(s): University of Michigan Instrument: MDM 8K CCD Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, very low humidity Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, very low humidity End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, very low humidity Observing Summary: 1. Experienced power brownouts early in the night. 2. Guiding was pulled off strangely (when little wind) then snapped back (twice early in the night, once during brownout). 3. Metal tube for dewar came out of rubber hose. I pushed it back in but the ziptie is no longer around the metal part. 4. Problems with focusing (all night). The TVguider camera is not at the same focus as the telescope. When the focus was adjusted to be great in the TVguider, the image showed donuts and vice versa. The TVguider seems to always be about 25 focus points too low. Karl Haisch noticed this focus problem too but it wasn't as severe then. This was the worst problem of the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Dec 17 [5:29:42]
