MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2003 Sep 21 Observer(s): Paust Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Echelle Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: I almost thought I was going to have to fill out a real trouble report. A little bit after midnight there was a loud screeching metal on metal sound that started to come through the speaker. It wasn't until I walked out into the dome that I realized it was actually just some bug outside who decided to come up with a mating call that had to be just about exactly at the most sensitive frequency of the microphone in the dome. Other than that, a fairly decent night of observing. The temperature stayed fairly steady, so there wasn't a lot of focus-changing to be done. The seeing didn't get as bad in the early evening as previous nights, but it didn't get as good towards the end either. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Sep 22 [6:29:40]
