MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2004 Apr 01 Observer(s): eve armstrong Institution(s): Rikers Island State Penitentiary Instrument: violin No Observing (see comments below) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Rain all night. Observing Summary: 'Twas quite a tumult of events that clocked this foggy night. Unusual confection of excitement, chance, and fright. The rain commenced at 4, against Joe's hopes for HT Cam. And so I opened anyway, to not upset the man. I rigged a clear umbrella 'tween the telescope and sky To ban the condensation, so the mirror stayed near dry. Then through the tempest's misty cloak emerged a baby bear. He crawled inside the dome and started lurching 'round in there. And after came his mother, who was clearly disconcerted And searching for her baby, for their home he'd just deserted. I guess she must have liked the dome's metallic shielding hood -- She's opted now to stay; I think they've moved in there for good. So guys, be careful come next time you work the 2-point-4. The bears don't like to be disturbed, a-sleepin' on the floor. And do wipe off the mirror - think it's still a wee bit wet. (Feel free to use my napkins; I have not consumed them yet.) I'm sorry for the trouble caused by snubbing all your rules. But I digress. Good night! (Oh yes, and Happy April Fool's.) ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Apr 2 [0:59:39]
