MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2004 Jul 01 Observer(s): Marshall Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS Worked for 8 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Thanks to Bob's heroic efforts to get pinatubo back up, observing went smoothly tonight. The only problem I had was with the pointing of the telescope: at certain ha and decs (most noticeably at ha=0 and dec=-15) the telescope had a huge amount of E-W wobble (about an arcmin) and in a few cases I couldn't get it to stay pointed at the target long enough to take an image. Also, on almost every target (regardless of location in the sky) the telescope jerks the star W out of the slit (by only a few arcsecs) after it is positioned with the hand paddle, but then calms down once the guider is turned on. Tomorrow night I will use the 1800 l/mm grating centered on 5185 A. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Jul 2 [4:17:01]
