MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2004 Mar 03 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + Echelle CCD No Observing (see comments below) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Very bad weather all night. Observing Summary: Fog, high humidity, and finally still more snow. I've noticed the ambient dome temperature reading occasionally going unstable, but not as crazy as before. The thing doesn't want to stay fixed I guess. Another note -- Yesterday Bob and I re-aligned the 600 l/mm Modspec grating in its cell. The dispersion and slit directions are now much closer to perpendicular. We also rotated the dewar to align CCD columns more accurately with the dispersion. While we had good luck converging on the setting this time, it would be good to have a more controllable, measurable way of adjusting this, e.g. a micrometer similar to the tilt/rotation plate on Mark III. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Mar 4 [4:01:30]
