MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2004 Oct 10 Observer(s): Frank Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS Worked for 4 hours (last half of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Clear, Winds Light & Variable, High humidity ! End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable, High humidity ! Observing Summary: Encountered quite some problems : (cf. also trouble report) Readjusting the grating for the desired wavelength took initially some time since there was a rather big set-off coming from the red of the day before into the blue. Furthermore : the Ar lamp persistently showed a strange feature in the blue part (roughly at pixel numbers 150-300 almost across the full range of columns) and thus could not be used. Initially, the dome had to be fixed several times manually since it evidently had lost track of its position. Worst of all : no visible activity on the TV guide screen the whole night - and for most of the night also rather bad behaviour of the slit viewer camera/TV. Result : only a few reasonably good spectra of quite bright objects could be taken (cf. trouble report). At times, humidity reached 72% (according to wall-controls), stronger winds at beginning of night ebbed later. When observing was possible, seeing good. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Oct 11 [6:49:37]
