MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2005 Nov 15 Observer(s): S. Lepine Institution(s): AMNH Instrument: Direct + Echelle Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Night started with very bad seeing which I suspect may have occurred because of a warm secondary mirror (8 degrees Celsius above ambient). But then perhaps it was the wind. Seeing stabilized around 1.2 after a few hours (as the secondary cooled down). Conditions were then excellent for the rest of the night. At closing, two of the mirror cover petals (North & South) wouldn't close. They are still open at this time. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 Nov 16 [7:09:59] NOTE: This report replaces the previous 2.4m telescope observing report for 2005 Nov 15
