MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2006 Jun 14 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: echelle direct + 2 in FW Worked for 8 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 0.8 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 0.8 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Weatherwise, a much better night than last night -- cirrusy at first, but eventually these cleared away (there was a bright moon 2nd half). Before sunset there was a layer of what appeared to be forest-fire smoke far to the west -- satellite images suggested that this was from a fire in northern Baja. There were three problems; in order of seriousness they are (a) the UPS evidently does not work; (b) continued clusters of stubbornly persistent asynchronous read errors; (c) some electrical noise is evident in low-background CCD images. Details are in trouble report. Note to Bob -- please go ahead and change the instrument as orignally scheduled. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Jun 15 [5:19:48]
