MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2006 Jun 16 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Excellent night, photometric with good seeing, and dark until just before midnight. I didn't have any asynchronous read errors tonight; Bob replaced a part in the fiber optic communication box yesterday, so this may have fixed the problem. However, it's so intermittent that I may simply have been lucky. The dome went into a fugue state during AM twilight; this cures itself eventually, but since I wanted to get some observations in before dawn I turned off the yellow auto-enable button and rotated the dome by hand. After the observation was done (a few minutes later) I re-set the dome and it was OK. By this strategy I was able to keep working while the fugue state went through its paces. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Jun 17 [5:15:33]
