MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2006 Mar 20 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 9 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: A very unpromising afternoon and evening turned good after dark - by moonrise the weather was perfectly clear. A tad windy, humidity rose for a while before dawn but receded before crossing the limit. Major incident of the night was the dewar failure at the 1.3m, but 2.4m behaved well. Only one minor glitch -- an asynchronous read error from the CCD. These seem to happen from time to time, rarely, so I didnt' bother filing a trouble report. Spent a good bit of time revising the 2.4m User's Guide to reflect the computer changes and the usefulness of GUI skycalc (which now has the guide star selector integrated). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Mar 21 [6:54:10]
