MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2006 Nov 04 Observer(s): L. Watson Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS and Retrocam Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Observing Summary: There were cirrus on the horizon for most of the night, but conditions were definitely better than last night. I got spectra for two SDSS supernova. They were very faint because of the moon. For the Carnegie Supernova Program, I took spectra of four supernova (two were repeats from last night). I took specra for typing two supernova. I observed three of C. Kochanek's lenses (one repeated from last night) and ended the night with observations of NGC 4151 for B. Peterson. At about 3am, the TCS showed the warning: Moving with AutoDome Off! . This was in the lower right section of the screen. But not only was the auto dome switch on and the Dome Controller button on AUTO, the TCS even said Auto Dome On in the middle-left secion of the screen (with the dome azimuth and error). I checked the dome on each object after I saw this message and it seemed to be following the telescope fine. I couldn't find a solution for this. Any suggestions? The high pitched noise continued tonight. I think it is from the speaker/microphone system. It sort of helps to turn off the microphone and if that doesn't work, then putting your hand around the microphone when the noice occurs usually helps. Any suggestions for how to fix this? ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Nov 5 [7:07:36]
