MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2006 Oct 27 Observer(s): R.J. Assef, K. Schlesinger Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS, RETROCAM Worked for 12 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.7 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: There appeared to be a thin layer of cloud that affected our seeing early on in the night; it was around 2.5 . Over the course of the night, our seeing improved dramatically to around 1 . We tried to observe an object near the horizon with an airmass of around 3; the guider did not work for this region of the sky so we were forced to wait until the object (GRB 061028) rose higher in the sky to observe it. We also had a small problem with the TCS display. The AutoDome was switched on and the display showed Auto Dome On. However, when we were trying to observe near the horizon, we frequently got an error saying the Auto Dome was off in the region where it says Coordinates received, etc. This didn't actually reflect what the dome was doing, as it moved in accordance to the position of the telescope. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Oct 28 [6:21:45]
