MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2007 Apr 16 Observer(s): Werk and Putman Institution(s): University of Michigan Instrument: MKIII Worked for 5 hours (last half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 7pm until 11pm. Beg: Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 2.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Early on in the night thick clouds, high humidity, and an occassional snow shower kept us from opening... At the start of our observing, we accidentally set the ra and dec encoders on an arcsecond offset, and got really off-track with pointing. Not only did we completely lose pointing, but we put the telescope in its limits, and had a fun time trying to get out of those. After about 20-30 minutes, we managed to set ourselves straight. We had some trouble with the telescope vs. guider focus. And couldn't at all get the slit appear very sharp in the monitor. Once we were able to set on an object, things went more smoothly. We may have managed to collect some useful data. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2007 Apr 17 [5:50:10]
