MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2007 Jan 02 Observer(s): K. Schlesinger Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDCOM Worked for 10 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: We initially had problems with the sizes of the two new filters for the 4in filter wheel. They were too large and prevented the wheel from turning well. Bob and Steve did some small modifications and determined that as long as you went one by one from filter to filter in the same direction, everything would be fine. After this was resolved we had problems pointing the telescope, most likely due to the fact that something was obscuring the middle of the CCD chip. Neither the guider nor RETROCAM were responsible for this. We reinitialized the filter wheel and moved RETROCAM and the guider in and out several times, which solved the mysterious obscuration problem. The rest of the nights' observing went smoothly. Seeing ranged from around 1 to 2 arcsec. There was a light haze, and the moon was very bright. We observed 4 target galaxies in the two new filters and two photometric standards. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2007 Jan 3 [7:30:16]
