MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2008 Jan 14

Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD

Worked for 13 hours (all night)
Conditions were Photometric most of the night.
No equipment or software problems were encountered.

Seeing and Weather:
   Beg: Seeing 3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate
   Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate
   End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds High

Observing Summary:

Perfectly clear, but with seeing that ranged from OK to 
spectacularly bad, on very short timescales sometimes. Windy. 
No equipment problems.  

Please change to direct camera + 4 inch filter wheel, 
Seitzer guider, and combination of mine and Mukremin's 
filter set as discussed.

Encountered a couple of illegal immigrants on the road on the way
up to dinner; inquired at top, La Migra had already been called.
Got back down as quick as I could (Eve was at the obs) and saw them
still walking down the road 400 yds past the MDM turnoff; so 
they were on their way.  Maybe we should start locking up 
whenever we're off the premises?  These guys seemed friendly
but bewildered (they asked me a question in Spanish, which
I don't understand), but we may not be so lucky next time.
