MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2008 Jun 13 Observer(s): John Tobin Institution(s): Michigan Instrument: TIFKAM Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Had another good night. Seeing was mediocre most of the night but got better towrds the end. Observed L1157 in H_2, Serpens 1 in Ks, L1165 in Ks, and L43 in Ks. I had one issue with the telescope running into the soft limit on hour angle. I was trying to go to L1157 while it was airmass of 2.1, but its hour angle was -6, it's declination is +68. The TCS got pretty confused, trying to send the telescope through 90 degrees declination. I aborted the auto slew and slewed manually and ran into the soft limit. I called Bob and he talked me through getting out of it, just using set and going west for a minute. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Jun 14 [4:29:55]
