MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2008 Mar 02 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + Echelle CCD Worked for 10 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: High Winds from start until mid. Beg: Seeing 2-3 arcsec, Clear, Winds High Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds High End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: A windy night -- 25 mph at times -- but never approaching the limit. The temperature plummetted after dark, going down below freezing (humidity was very low though) -- consequently, the mirror ended up warm compared to ambient. This plus the wind contributed to the mediocre seeing. Nonetheless, I soldiered on with brighter targets and got some nice results. Winds abated somewhat after midnight and the seeing improved, but I had to close a little early to get to the airport. This has been a very productive run -- thanks to all the staff for your support! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Mar 3 [9:25:38]
