MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observer's Report for 2008 May 10 Observer(s): Statler & Sharma Institution(s): Ohio University Instrument: CCDS + Retrocam Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Hazy all night long, and the fires still appeared to be burning a few miles south of us. Seeing values in the table above are best guesses. Used CCDS for spectroscopy of near-Earth asteroids. Had fun tracking (including guiding by hand) an asteroid with proper motion of several arcsec per second. We could not specify tracking rate to high precision through TCS - the actual tracking rates seem to change in steps; e.g 15.009 arcsec per second seems equivalent to 15.001. We didn't expect this, and were wondering if this is indeed a true feature of TCS. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 May 11 [5:08:20]
