MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2010 Feb 22

Bad weather most of the night.
No equipment or software problems were encountered.

Seeing and Weather:
   High Humidity all night.

Observing Summary:

Did not open because relative humidity was consistently over 90%.

We lost power around 3:10pm today. As several attempts to start up
 the generator failed, we proceed with the emergency lightning 
shutdown procedure. We only got to shut down Hiltner, Agung, and 
 the two XP machines (but not the IC computer) when the UPS shut 
down. A little later we managed to get the generator running when 
we completed the shutdown procedure. However, the IC computer had 
not come back on. we did not attempt to get IC running again 
when the generator finally started running. Instead, we went 
ahead with rest of the emergency shutdown steps as we were not 
sure if the generator was going to hold.

Around 8:30pm, we gradually brought everything back online as 
the weather improved and the generator did not show any signs of
 trouble. Initially, prospero startup was complaining about IC 
and Caliban failing to synch disks. We tried  IC TCINIT  from 
prospero,  >IC PING  from Caliban, and closed and restarted 
Caliban, but that did not help. Finally, we again shutdown IC 
and TCS, powered up both, and this time everything went fine.

We have taken some lamp spectra using CCDS (to center the 
grating properly) and calibration data for Retrocam. Everything 
seems to be going fine.
