MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2010 Nov 06 Observer(s): Haojing Yan Institution(s): OSU Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 5 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Overcast most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 19:00 until 02:30. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm Observing Summary: LN2 filled at 5:00pm. Didn't open until 7:00pm because of the clouds. The first half of night was mostly lost because of weather -- bad transparency and lousy seeing (1.5 ). The observer took advantage of this to get himself familiar with the telescope and the instrument. In the middle of night DS9 display messed up for some unknown reason, and made slit acquisition impossible. Had to kill DS9, quit pyraf, and restart. Later the guiding window (Maxim DL) went completely wrong, and had to be killed and restarted. Slit acquisition overhead is too high. If the pointing is fairly good, could offset RA by ~ +20 arcsec in advance to reduce the pain in moving the object on the slit. Tested on the last target and it worked (it should). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 Nov 7 [7:50:05]
