MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2010 Oct 24 Observer(s): Atlee Institution(s): Ohio State Instrument: TIFKAM Worked for 2 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Overcast most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 2000 until 0600. Beg: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Overcast, Winds Light & Variable End: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: I managed brief observations of a single photometric standard and partial coverage of a single cluster field. The cloud cover waxed and waned throughout the night, but after about 8 PM the sky was never clear enough to be certain of good photometry over long exposures. One item may be worthy of note: the new guider does not appear to do well in high background conditions. Scattered light from the detector causes streaks in the sky background, and the software attempts to guide on these streaks rather than on the chosen guide stars. This is despite the fact that the stars are quite notable on the guider image. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 Oct 25 [6:25:44]
