MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2011 Feb 07 Observer(s): Marcel Agueros Institution(s): Columbia U Instrument: MODSPEC+ECHELLE Worked for 7 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Moderate End: Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: I lost several hours at the start of the night by convincing myself that there was something wrong with the telescope pointing, which there wasn't. I'd changed the home position on the dome because I misread its position and thought it was off--which it wasn't. Unsurprisingly, the dome was therefore occulting the telescope when I went to observe. Fortunately Jules was home and patiently walked me through the various tests until I realized that I was looking at the wrong place to check the dome position. After that, it was smooth sailing, save for the winds, which picked up as the night went on. They never got close to the 40 mph mark as far as I could tell, but I know WIYN closed and was therefore a bit nervous about the intensity of the gusts. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Feb 9 [15:20:39]
